21st February 2011

Run in association with Vendorcom, the conference will address some of the key issues and challenges that are currently facing the card and payments industry.

The second day – 17th March – will comprise three 100 minute retailer briefings, covering the following topics:

  • Contactless and mobile payments
  • PCI and payment security
  • eCommerce payments

John Rozek, director of Polar Moment, will present during the eCommerce payments retailer briefing. The briefing, in association with Polar Moment, will include insights from Tesco.com, Visa Europe and Retail Decisions. During his presentation, entitled 'A single international payment solution – retailer's utopia or impossible dream', Mr Rozek will discuss the opportunities and barriers that stand between retailers and international acquiring.

John Rozek commented: "Today's retailers exploit the benefits of sophisticated enterprise solutions to optimise their business operations. They are able to control their supply chain, ensure their merchandise is available, reduce waste, personalise their marketing, manage loyalty programmes, review pricing, exploit on-selling opportunities and maximise their conversion rates. International retailers look to rollout these capabilities globally, while managing their business from a centralised head office. They are expert at operating in a multi-channel, multi-country, multi-currency, multi-lingual environments. However, the one component that does not port internationally is their payment systems."

Mr Rozek continued, outlining factors important to retailers in the current market: "Retailers want to accept any card – credit or debit – and want to be able to accept them anywhere in the world. They want to send all their transactions to one acquiring bank and don't want to enter into acquirer relationships in each country. They want the bank to send them a single central payment to their head office account. Most importantly, retailers want to deploy a common payments platform globally."

The aim of John Rozek's presentation is to help retailers understand how they can exploit the services of international payment gateways, acquiring banks and payment service providers. It will also address some of the key challenges that retailers face when implementing an international payment strategy.
